Back Branding & Visual Identity

Blank Scale

A studio identity reduced to its initials. BLNK repeats as a typographic pattern in hard black and white — a surface that frames the work without ever competing with it.

01

The Challenge

A studio’s own brand has a problem no client brand has: it must never outshine the work it frames. Too much personality and every project starts competing with its own container.

It cannot be invisible either. It still has to be recognisable across a portfolio, a deck, packaging and a storefront — present, but never the loudest thing in the room.

02

The Approach

We reduced the name to four letters and made the reduction the idea. BLNK repeats as a typographic pattern, so the wordmark and the surface design are the same asset used at different scales.

The palette stops at black and white and the typeface count stops at one. Every decision in the system is subtractive, which leaves the work itself as the only place colour ever appears.

03

The System

A single tile becomes a record sleeve, a skate deck, a wall or a screen with nothing redrawn. It scales infinitely and prints in one colour — which, for a studio putting out its own objects, matters as much as how it looks.
